Why carrier claim deadlines matter

Carriers only refund what you dispute in time. Late-delivery refunds under the UPS and FedEx service guarantees have a very short window — about two weeks after delivery — so they are the easiest money to lose. Billing errors such as overbilled weight or invalid surcharges can usually be disputed for around six months from the invoice date.

How to file before the deadline

Gather the tracking number, invoice number, the charge you dispute and the reason. Submit it in the carrier's billing portal (UPS Billing Center or FedEx Billing Online) or through your account representative. Group many shipments into one dispute with a spreadsheet — carriers handle batch disputes faster.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to claim a UPS late delivery refund?

Generally 15 calendar days from the delivery date, under the UPS Service Guarantee. Guarantees can be suspended in peak seasons and may be waived in your contract.

How long do I have to dispute a FedEx invoice?

Billing adjustments are generally accepted for about 180 days from the invoice date; late-delivery refunds under the FedEx Money-Back Guarantee have a much shorter window of about 15 days.

What if the deadline has passed?

The carrier may still review it as a courtesy, but it is not obliged to. Track deadlines for every shipment so the next errors are claimed in time.
